My areas of responsibility:
In my position with USD 402, I enjoy being a part of the district administrative team. As an integrationist in the Curriculum Department, I work with teachers and teacher groups to assist them with the transition to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the integration of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) into our students' learning experiences.
As Director of Communications, I manage and edit our print and online communications and materials, facilitate our district crisis planning team, and coordinate grant efforts within the district. I represent our district in the Kansas School Public Relations Association and attend other meetings, workshops and conferences related to my assigned duties.
I hold professional licenses from the State of Kansas in district leadership and teaching (English/Journalism grades 5-12). The 2012-2013 school year will be my 12th year as an employee of USD 402 and my 21st year as an educator in Kansas. Before accepting this position, I served in Augusta as director of our alternative high school and adult diploma programs for two years, technology integration specialist for four years, and English/journalism/yearbook teacher at AHS for four years. Before coming to work in Augusta, I taught English, newspaper, and yearbook at Bluestem High School in Leon (USD 205) for nine years.
My family moved here when I was 12, at the very end of my sixth grade year (Lincoln Elementary), and I am proud to call Augusta my hometown. My experiences as a student in USD 402 prepared me quite well for success in college and "the world," and I was thrilled to return to Augusta in 1992, after five years in Louisiana while my husband served in the USAF at Barksdale Air Force Base. We have lived in Augusta ever since, and our two sons (a Shocker sophomore and an Oriole junior) are also Orioles through-and-through.
