Augusta Middle School
May 1, 2013

Wednesday, May 1, 2013 was our last Site Council meeting of the year. Eileen Dreiling thanked all for volunteering to be a member of the AMS Site Council for the 2012-2013 school year. The agenda/minutes for the meeting included: 

1. A short video about Professional Learning Communities.
2. Construction update.
3. State assessment testing completed and Curriculum changes for 2013-2014-additional math classes.

4. PATHS update-last meeting will be May 8th.

5. New administration-introduction of Mr. Matt Ward.  Presently middle school social studies teacher at Shawnee Heights Middle School.

6. Open-no items.

Site Council Minutes
December 4, 2012

Eileen Dreiling, Principal, gave an update on the construction.  Items were a bit behind but soon to be completed such as: cameras and door security.

Sixth grade transition includes:

  1. Principal/Counselor visits each 5th grade classroom in the district in late April or early May.  Student’s questions are answered.
  2. Sixth grade teachers attend a transition meeting with 5th grade teachers.  These meetings occur separately with each elementary building.
  3. Sixth grade students tour AMS and are given some general information.
  4. First day of school is sixth grade students only (orientation).  Includes a morning and an evening parent meeting.
  5. More activities occur during the first nine weeks.

Lunch schedule was explained and changed to allow for more student time.   

Parents were given information about Core Extension class.  The AR reading program was eliminated this year in the schedule because of schedule change, participation, and expense.

October 23, 2012
 

Welcome by Eileen Dreiling. Introductions were made.

Purpose of site council is to provide advice, counsel, ask questions regarding performance goals—student learning, education programs, school improvement, accreditation issues

Discussion took place as to how the agenda will be created for each meeting.  It will be an informal process with an open agenda item. Members can call the school to have an item placed on the agenda.

Mission of AMS is -“Working together for student achievement!”  Vision was explained by Eileen.

2011-2012 Report Card was presented and discussed. Graphs were shown for both reading and math scores.  AMS received the Standard of Excellence in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade reading and as a building. AMS achieved the Standard of Excellence in 7th and 8th grade math and as a building.

Parents asked about the traffic issues in front of AMS. Dr. Black talked about the results of the safety study that was done this year. A few safety procedures that will be done this year include: straightening the crosswalk, proper placement of the handicapped incline and hiring crossing guards for both Broadway and Clark.

Suggestions for agenda items for future meetings include: construction update, sixth grade transition, lunch schedule, AR/Core.
