An AMS team of 14 students went to Wichita State University April 5 to compete in the state Science Olympiad competition.  The team of AMS students placed 8th in the large school division.  Emily Mertz and Jenna Reynolds earned individual first place medals in the food science category.  Keegan Hallmark and Patrick Bruce also earned individual first place medals in the metric mastery.

AMS students did well in the Pioneer League spelling bee!  Brad Stevens placed second in the seventh grade completion, and Kara Schnake placed second in the 8th grade competition.

The AHS Jazz Band was selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) convention in Wichita March 1.  Performing at KMEA is a huge deal to all music educators and their students.  In order to be asked to perform, groups must send in an audition tape a year prior and must be selected from many other performing groups.  This is a great honor for the jazz band and Mr. Hollis.

Congratulations to AHS senior C.J. Langrehr, who was awarded a Gold Key in the Scholastic Art competition with a colored pencil drawing she produced last spring in art class. Along with all the other winning entries, C.J.’s drawing, called "Sunset," was on display at the Wichita Center for the Arts during the month of February.  Way to go, C.J.!

Congratulations to AHS junior Quentin Cox, who was named to the Kansas All-State Band.  He earned his trombone position in the South Central Kansas Music Educators Association Honor Band, and from there he had the opportunity to perform a live audition for a part in the All-State Band.  We're proud of you, Quentin!

AMS seventh grader Brad Stevens is the winner from our region in the League of Kansas Municipalities "If I Were Mayor" essay contest.  Brad has won a $250 savings bond, gets his essay published in the Kansas Government Journal and gets to visit the capitol for special recognition.  He and the other five regional winners from around the state will be considered for the grand prize.  Good job, Brad!
