Kansas Horizon Award

2008 Teachers of the Year
Mr. Jim Lentz, our Superintendent of Schools, was named Superintendent of the Year by the Kansas Association of School Administrators (KASA), an affiliation of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). AMS  teacher Kristen Crank has been named one of 16 Horizon Award Winners in Kansas for 2008.  Mrs. Crank is in her second year of teaching 6th grade social studies at AMS.  The Kansas State Department of Education announces this award each year to recognize outstanding new teachers.

Mrs. Karen Bristow, Garfield Elementary teacher, was one of the eight finalists for Kansas Teacher of the Year for 2008!  She represented USD 402 as our Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Margie Barr, Augusta Middle School teacher, was chosen as our district's Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Golden Apple Recipient!  Music teacher Kathy Winzer was surprised during class at Robinson Elementary when representatives from KAKE-TV came in and presented her with the Golden Apple Award!  Sponsored by KAKE-TV, Davis-Moore, Papa John's, and Radio Disney, the award is given to teachers who go "beyond the call of duty" for their children, demonstrate creativity in their teaching, and inspire and motivate their students.  Congratulations, Miss Winzer!
