About Augusta Senior High
Our History
Augusta High School is a four year public high school, located in Augusta, Kansas. According to the 1968 Augusta Centennial, Inc., the high school classes were housed in the new building that was located at the site of the present middle school in 1880. The building served as the entire Augusta school system for thirty years.
In the spring of 1881, Augusta High School had the first high school graduate in Butler County. By 1910, however, the number of students had grown, so it was necessary to have a separate building for the high school students. Consequently, a building was erected for the high school on what is now Garfield Elementary's playground. This building proved adequate for 10 years; then in 1922, the high school added onto the former middle school. In 1970, the current Augusta High School building was completed at 2020 N. Ohio Street.
Today the school is served by 54 faculty members and a 10 member support staff for a total of 64 employees. Augusta High School is accredited by the North Central Association and the State of Kansas.
